Climate change in Kenya has resulted in more frequent and intense droughts, floods and disease outbreaks, leaving little opportunity for affected communities to recover. Oxfam’s work here includes cash transfers and hygiene education, as well as construction of water infrastructure like cattle troughs, communal water points, a 400-metre pipeline and a 50 cubic metre elevated steel water tank. Abdia (pictured with her son) says "I can now enjoy good clean water that is safe for drinking and cooking without fearing for my children's health, since they give us water treating chemicals and storage tanks that allow us to have clean water in the house for more than a week." All of our work aims to change unfair underlying systems, so that everyone has the education, resources, and opportunities they need not just to survive, but thrive.
